One year in a stokvel, without the paper book
From the first meeting to the December payout — here is exactly what running your stokvel on Stok-Vel looks like.
The system you’re running today
It has worked for years — but every hand-over is a place where the record can break, and it gets heavier as the group grows, the transactions pile up, and committee members change.
Our goal is not to replace the stokvel. It is to replace the administrative burden — the stokvel stays exactly as it is.
The walkthrough
Step 1
Register and set up your committee
One admin registers the stokvel and adds the committee: treasurer, coordinator, and secretary, plus an optional floor representative with read-only oversight of everything the admins do. Two-factor security is mandatory for all of them from day one.
Takes minutes. Your constitution, your rules, your contribution amounts.
Step 2
Invite your members
Members join by invitation only — there is nothing public to stumble into. Each member gets a private wallet view: their own savings, the live group total, and nothing about anyone else's balance.
Works on any phone — it's an app and a website, nothing to configure.
Step 3
Meeting day: record in seconds
Nothing changes about the meeting itself. Members bring cash exactly as always; the admin ticks off who paid what. Every entry is timestamped and attributed — the whole group's record updates instantly, and the attendance register keeps itself.
The cash goes into your stokvel's own bank account, like it always has.
Step 4
Between meetings: everyone can see
Members check their savings any time instead of waiting to ask. Announcements and replies happen in the group feed, not in a scattered chat. If a member draws down early against their own savings, it appears on the public drawdown board — visible to the whole group, because it affects the group pot.
A drawdown can never exceed a member's own available balance — the app enforces it.
Step 5
Any month: statements on demand
Monthly statements are there when a member wants proof of where they stand — clean, printable, each member's own data. No more asking the treasurer to page through the book.
Admins get the group view; members get their own. Privacy by design.
Step 6
December: close the year with confidence
The year-end close pays savings back to each member on record and splits bank interest per your group's rules — equal or pro-rata. It is calculated, not argued. The close is logged, irreversible, and visible to the floor representative.
January starts with a clean book and last year's full history preserved.
The whole app, on one page
Save it, print it, or send it to your committee’s group chat — the six steps at a glance.
What members actually see
Their own money, the group’s total, and the shared drawdown board — nothing about anyone else’s balance.
